26 Sunday

Man I am getting old.

Things are falling into place quite nicely, it is almost as though I have been planning to quit for a year now... I got my individual research approved for this summer, which means I will be working at the NFETC (North Florida Evaluation Treatment Center) This fall... I needed the individual research before beginning my senior thesis...

I am going to take the SATII test for Spanish and try to clep out of spanish II. I got a 340 last time I took it, which was the top end of the class that I am in now. I need a 430 to get out of it all together. I ordered a book on how to prepare with an interactive cd-rom. So if that is the case, I can take an additional two classes in the fall in stead of one spanish class. That would be the ultimate plan, giving me only two classes my last semester, so that I can really focus on the senior thesis. :) but if not, I am no stranger to work... either way I still finish a full 5 months ahead of schedule!

My Grandparents have graciously decided to pay for the schools health insurance. Major load off my back! I am forever grateful to them for this! My Dad and step mom are going to help with the extra books, and my mom said if I fell short sometimes, she would help with my cell phone. I have a lot of support, and I just hope that I don't let anyone down.

I ended up with a 92% overall in my Abnormal psychology class, making me exempt from the final :) I have to focus all my attention on Spanish, cause my exam is Wednesday.

Tomorrow I am going to Fred's to help wash some horses. Then we are going to do a photo shoot, so we can set them up a website! I think Colette and I will be riding in the afternoon! I can't wait!!! :) Ruth might come and help too, I hope she does, I know she loves the horses as much as I do!

My Dundee... he is such a sweetie! He gives kisses :)

Change

So, I have never been one to like change, even as a child... I would get mad if my grandparents rearranged their house without me, or changing schools... I am about to undertake a lot of change, but I am sure that it is for the better.

I put in my two weeks resignation letter at the police department, which was very hard for me. I have worked here for five years, and I like my job and the people that I work with. But in return, I will be attending school full time.

I have already added a class for this summer, bringing me to 12 credit hours, and have started the ball rolling on an Individual Study (internship) at the North Florida Evaluation Treatment Center, (from here forward the NFETC). I will be earning three credit hours in psychology for this.

When an accused suspect is arrested, and facing trial, they have to be deemed competent to stand trial. If they are not competent, they are sent to the NFETC, to determine if they are malingering (faking it), or if they truely are incompetent, then they are assessed, and helped to reach competence. I will be shadowing a psychologist during evaluations of suspects and treatment. Totally stoked! I go for my interview on the 3rd of May. The coordinator already mentioned part time employment at the completion of my volunteer hours, and that was just from talking to me on the phone.

So this brings me up to 15 credits this summer, and currently I have 13 in the fall. I am trying to get into an Introduction to Research Class, where I will be a research assistant to a professor, also three credit hours, and this is the final step before starting my senior thesis. :) If all goes well I should graduate at the end of next summer! With my senior thesis in hand, then on to grad school for me. I will go straight for my Ph.D.

So, I am excited, relieved, nervous and sad all at once... I am a planner, for sure, and this was totally unplanned, as of last Thursday, I thought everything was fine, and then blam... life changes. But I honestly think it is for the better.

I have a plan in place so far as bills and money are concerned, and will go into that in more detail later, but I just thought I would update everyone as to what is going on in my life...

I got a 98 on my Spanish Oral Exam, and a 93 on my spanish composition. I have a psych test tomorrow, then I am done with that class, and then next wednesday I have my Spanish final. Then finally I will have some time off... four glorious days before classes start...

This was not an easy decision to come to, and in the end, I do hope that I made the right decision! But my heart, my family, and my friends all tell me that I did.

Well blog ya later folks.

Great on the Spanish! ...and U thought U weren't doing very well!

Your blogs are full of inspiration! I am like you and never liked change! I had hissy fits and fell to the floor if mom moved the couch or the kitchen table. For some reason after having children, change didn't seem so bad. I don't know what happened! Its all good though!

Those sure are changes! I don't like big changes myself, well depending on the kind I guess. I think go with your heart and loved ones. All this sounds quite exciting, even if it's a little scary.

I feel like a pirate

ARGGGHHHHH!

I know I have posted this pic before, but is perfect for today's theme.

Ever just have one of those days where you are ready to just throw in the towel?

I stay at the police department, not for the pay - cause it is not that great, but because #1, they work with my school schedule, because school is numero uno in my life! (like my spanglish?)

and #2 because it is the field that I eventually want to go into.

Well today, I found out that they may not be so willing to work with me on my school schedule. I got the earlist possible schedule for this summer, which puts me working from 1300-2100. I told my supervisor, that I have my letter already typed, so if he wants to go that route just let me know... her eyes got big. I know they don't want to lose me, and I don't want to leave, but I can't drop below 6 credit hours or I lose my financial aid... so I am stuck between a boulder (cause it is much bigger than a rock) and a really hard place.

We will just have to wait it out and see I guess. I could take out extra student loans, go to school full time, and be done in half the time! se la vi...

Thoughts for the day: When in doubt tell the truth... ~ Mark Twain

You can't be afraid of stepping on toes if you want to go dancing ~Lewis Freedman

Factoid: Barbers at one time combined shaving and haircutting with bloodletting and pulling teeth. The white stripes on a field of red that spiral down a barber pole represent the bandages used in the bloodletting.

Bloodletting used to be a way to deal with psychosis. They believed that the fluids in your body were imbalanced, and in order to achieve balance, they had to let out some of the fluid. And of course, draining a couple pints of blood calms anyone down, makes them dizzy, they pass out, so it appeared to work. I am not sure why they would have done this in a barber shop though... wierd.

quick update

Just a quick update...

  1. Spanish test (from forever ago): I got an 88.75%, which is almost an A... I thought I failed so that is good
  2. Spanish Oral exam (this morning): I totally aced it!
  3. Wedding (last weekend): It was great, I did not stumble, and projected my voice loud enough for all 200 people to hear.
  4. After the wedding: oh boy, there is no short update on this. I got sooooo drunk! I NEVER drink beer, and I did 4 keg stands. LOL, I was totally wasted. Photos soon to come, and perhaps even a video clip of a keg stand... maybe!
  5. Easter Sunday: WOW, what a good day! I went to my Aunt's house, rode around the ponds on a paddle boat, rode horses (monto a caballos) bought a kayak (I am sooo excited, I will pick it up at the end of this semester, as it is in Daytona) ate great food
  6. I tweeked my knee out again this weekend. Status: not great, but not terrible either. I went to the doc yesterday, and she sent me for x-rays. I don't think they are going to find anything wrong with the bones... I am sure it is tissue related. So, alas I am back in a knee brace ... again... HUGE bummer, I was supposed to go horse back riding tonight, and now I can't. I was majorly bummed out. But it could be a lot worse, I just thank the Lord that I can walk~ that I am not stuck in a chair... I can deal with a little knee pain.
  7. I bought this spanish cd, Shakira Donde estan las ladrones... and have been listening to it now for over a week. I am picking out more and more words, and can even sing along to some of the lyrics, though I am not always sure what I am singing. LOL! I am trying so damned hard to learn spanish, and well, it is hard!
  8. hmmmmm... I don't think anything else is happening right now.
I will have to update more later as we have been slammed at work, and I have been one busy woman. Finals week is fast approaching, I have a psych test next wednesday, and then one week to study for my Spanish final. So I may continue to be scarce for a while.

Be a good listener. Your ears will never get you in trouble. ~ Frank Tyger

and my favorite today: If your ship doesn't come in, swim out to it! ~Jonathan Winters

Factoids: A chameleon's tongue is twice the length of its body.

Bet you didn't know that: A lump of pure gold the size of a matchbox can be flattened into a sheet the size of a tennis court.

Happy Easter

I thought these were too cute not to share, I hope you can read them, not what I expected!

Wow, it has been a while. I started to update a couple of times, and my computer froze once, and I lost everything, then I just sat here staring at a blank screen. For once, I did not know what to write, nor did I have the motivation to do it ~ wierd! Well I have plenty of things to share now... some pictures (above) some music, a video... some stories... a joke... I am just full of it today! Enjoy!

Happy Good Friday, and Happy Easter to everyone!

Reminder: Tomorrow is tax day. dun dun dun.... click here for new tax forms...

It is also the day of Fred and Colettes wedding. I am kinda nervous, as this will be my first ceremony. I think it will go smoothly, provided the horses don't bug out. I will post pictures! Tonight is the rehersal dinner, and Lar and I will be tent camping on their farm, as I am sure there will be some social drinking going on! Okay maybe a little more than social! :)

I get off work early today, cause I came in early... Mi profesor de espanol decided to give us the day off, so I skipped psych.... (ohhhh I'm telling... wait I can't tell on myself) and get to work early. :) Which means I can go out and help them get everything set up!

In other news, well there really is no other news... school and work, work and school. I have decided to take a break from dating, despite a few tempting offers.I am enrolled in 9 credit hours this summer, and 13 this fall, does not sound good for potential romance, and I am sort of burnt out on trying. I guess it is more like tired of being disapointed.

Something that pulls your heart strings: "You are my sunshine"

Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she did what she could to help her 3-year-old son, Michael, prepare for a new sibling. They found out that the new baby was going be a girl, and day after day, night after night, Michael sang to his sister in Mommy's tummy. He was building a bond of love with his little sister before he even met her. The pregnancy progressed normally for Karen, an active member of the Panther Creek United Methodist Church in Morristown, Tennessee.

In time, the labor pains came. Soon it was every five minutes, every three, every minute. But serious complications arose during delivery and Karen found herself in hours of labor. Would a C-section be required? Finally, after a long struggle, Michael's little sister was born. But she was in very serious condition. With a siren howling in the night, the ambulance rushed the infant to the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Knoxville, Tennessee. The days inched by. The little girl got worse. The pediatrician had to tell the parents there is very little hope. Be prepared for the worst.

Karen and her husband contacted a local cemetery about a burial plot. They had fixed a special room in their house for their new baby but now they found themselves having to plan for a funeral. Michael, however, kept begging his parents to let him see his sister. I want to sing to her, he kept saying. Week two in intensive care looked as if a funeral would come before the week was over. Michael kept nagging about singing to his sister, but kids are never allowed in Intensive Care.

Karen decided to take Michael whether hey liked it or not. If he didn't see his sister right then, he may never see her alive. She dressed him in an oversized scrub suit and marched him into ICU. He looked like a walking laundry basket. The head nurse recognized him as a child and bellowed,”Get that kid out of here now. No children are allowed." The mother rose up strong in Karen, and the usually mild-mannered lady glared steel-eyed right into the head nurse's face, her lips a firm line. "Heis not leaving until he sings to his sister" she stated.

Then Karen towed Michael to his sister's bedside. He gazed at the tiny infant losing the battle to live. After a moment, he began to sing. In the pure-hearted voice of a 3-year-old, Michael sang: "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine; you make me happy when skies are gray." Instantly the baby girl seemed to respond. The pulse rate began to calm down and become steady. "Keep on singing, Michael," encouraged Karen with tears in her eyes. "You neverknow, dear, how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away."

As Michael sang to his sister, the baby's ragged, strained breathing became as smooth as a kitten’s purr. "Keep on singing, sweetheart." "The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms". Michael's little sister began to relax as rest, healing rest, seemed to sweep over her. "Keep on singing, Michael." Tears had now conquered the face of the bossy head nurse. Karen glowed. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. Please don't take my sunshine away..." The next day...the very next day...the little girl was well enough to go home. Woman's Day Magazine called it The Miracle of a Brother's Song. The medical staff just called it a miracle. Karen called it a miracle of God's love.

Something funny:

Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after the night at a business function. He forces himself to open his eyes and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a single red rose!

Jack sits down and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. Jack looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror and notices a note on the table: "Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to go shopping - Love you!!"

He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table, eating. Jack asks, "Son...what happened last night?" "Well, you came home after 3 am, drunk and out of your mind. You broke the coffee table, puked in the hallway and got that black eye when you ran into the door."

"So, why is everything in such perfect order, so clean, I have a rose and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?" His son replies, "Oh, THAT!...Mom dragged you to the bedroom and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, "Leave me alone, bitch, I'm married!!!".

Broken table - $200
Hot breakfast - $5
Red Rose bud - $3
Two aspirins - $0.25
Saying the right thing, at the right time... Priceless

hola mi amigos! Que tal? Estado ocupado recientemente. Arrepentido para la falta de entradas. Okay so I hope I said, Hello my friends, how's it going? I have been busy lately. Sorry for the lack of entries (updates).

Okay first things first... Florida Gators are the National Champs for Basket Ball.... oh yeah! Cause it's great to be a Florida Gator, I said it's great to be a flor-i-da Ga-tor!

I got a 90 on that psych test. I still don't know how I did on muh spanish test, but I don't expect it was very good...

Ruth and I went to play with the horses on Saturday, it was so much fun. We brushed out 7 horses, my five to her two ... lol! She got one of the fuzziest little horses I have ever seen. He is still very young. The horse Sarah had her baby Sunday morning, so I will be heading over there after work to see the baby. Too cute, I have never seen a horse this young up close. :)

Not a whole lot has been going on in my life for once. I went to visit my grandparents yesterday evening, and they doing well. I fixed their computer problems... never thought I would hear the day when I could say that... I fixed computer problems, lol, that just sounds off!

I really want to go see the movie The Hills Have Eyes. I heard it was super scary. I did watch the movie Jarhead a couple of nights ago.... Don't rent it, it was aweful. I felt that it was totally politically motivated, to make desert storm look like a waste of time, to put down the american soldier, and to stereo type Marines. I love war movies, especially those based on true stories. I thought that some of the acting was good.... they did well with portraying the fears a soldier goes through, wondering if his or her significant other is remaining truthful, and of course I liked the naked guys shower scene... But other than that it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I got up thinking "what was the point?" It was some pretty liberal minded bs if you ask me.

T-10 days until I perform Fred and Colette's Wedding ceremony... I got them the coolest thing, but I can't tell you, cause, well I think Fred reads this sometimes...

I redid my myspace... so if any of you punks out there has a myspace, I hope you go and add me... like 5 minutes ago!
Thought for the day: It's always too early to quit. ~Norman Vincent Peale

Factoid: University of Florida Gators are the 2006 National Champions for Basketball... OH Yeah - we are no longer just a football school!

Espanol: Encima de la entrada. (above the entry (update- I don't know if they have a word for this... so I am using entry))

Ice Age 2: A must see film. If you did not see the original, your crazy and go rent it now! I own the original, and I will own this one when it comes out! I laughed my ass off so many times, I laughed so hard I cried in the first four minutes.

Just had to share that! It was much needed comic relief!

Work was hectic this week, trying to get everything in CFA standards, so that we can get accredited. Project upon project piled on, till the stack on your desk is so high, you can't see over it, with no end in sight... I am glad it is friday!

I don't know how I did on my psych test, prolly a B... but maybe an A. One down one to go... keep your fingers crossed.

Well I gotta hit the sack , we are going to play with horses tomorrow, and Ihave to get up at a fairly descent time... and seeing as how it is now after 2... yawn...

blog ya later.
